Is it Important to Budget my Time as a Freelancer?

Freelancing is a job where a person works for themselves or a self-employed person. So working as a freelancer means you’re your own boss, you hold your own time, and you can work whenever you want to.

Of course, being a freelancer requires self-discipline and self-control when it comes to spending time. Why? Like money, we need to be careful when it comes to spending it. But the difference between them is that when you lose your money, there’s a chance that you can still get it back, but when you lose your time, no matter what you do, you can’t get it back. That’s why time is more important than money.

But how does budgeting time help? Budgeting time helps you save time, reduce stress from work, and avoid missed deadlines from clients. But it’s not easy to budget time, especially if there’s distraction or procrastination. So what to do? How to budget time?

What you can do:

1. List down the things that you need to do

– Like works that are needed to be done or doing chores in your house, and set the estimated time of how long you think you can finish the task. Organize and plan your list based on your wants and follow your to-do list.

2. Remove Distractions while working

– It can be notifications on your phone, your family members being a little bit noisy, or some object on your desk that can be very distracting or eye-catching.

To avoid Distractions:

• You can set your phone to “Airplane Mode” or “Do Not Disturb“. If you use your phone as part of your work, you can turn off the notifications of the apps that you don’t use in your work.

• If possible, choose a place where you can work in peace so that you won’t be distracted by someone.

• Remove some things from your office desk that will make you distracted. If possible, organize or clean your desk.

3. Be balanced

– Don’t push yourself to work straight. If possible, take a small break from time to time. Relax and have fun while working.
