The main energy sector federations have been urging newly elected MPs all summer to approve without delay France’s energy programme, which is already a year behind schedule.
For over a month, the main energy federations have been asking the new deputies to adopt France’s energy programme, which is one year late , and to guarantee the stability essential to the development of this rapidly changing sector.
A sector in crisis
The concerns of the players in the energy system have been growing since the legislative elections. “ Our energy system and our industrial sectors are at a crucial turning point. As elected representatives of the Nation, during this new term of office you will have to commit France to a fair and attractive energy transition, ” declared Enerplan (solar), FEDENE (energy-environment services), France Renouvelables, France gaz, the Syndicat des énergies renouvelables, SFEN (nuclear energy) and the French Electricity Union (UFE).
The federations stress the importance of avoiding “stop and go” policies, which are detrimental to industries in the long term. They insist on the “key role” of Parliament in providing the necessary stability to industrial players in order to secure investments. These investments are essential to guarantee energy security, an energy transition accessible to all citizens, the competitiveness of businesses, and the development of employment.
The sector demands the immediate implementation of the multi-year energy programme, which sets out the main objectives by type of energy by 2035, as well as the national low-carbon strategy, designed to combat climate change. The previous government, having failed to obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly, was unable to pass this law, and the announced decree was never implemented.
Financing
Energy federations are demanding that MPs elected on July 7 validate the objectives defined after a broad consultation in 2023.
“ We call for the publication of programmatic documents based on the consensus of the various consultations carried out over several months, making it possible to maintain the competitiveness of the energy mix, guarantee security of supply, decarbonize energy uses and make this transformation a vector for the reindustrialization of the country ,” they declared.
The signatories also stress the need to publish the multi-year strategy for financing the ecological transition planned for 2025, while insisting on the importance of carrying out this transition while protecting the purchasing power of the French.
“ We recommend decarbonizing energy uses in order to protect consumers from the volatility of energy prices, to strengthen aid schemes for low-income households ( energy check , MaPrimeRénov’, support for clean mobility, etc.), communities, and to implement measures to better share the value of the transition with the regions ,” they state in the letter.
The federations call for accelerating decarbonization to protect consumers from fluctuations in energy prices , increasing aid for low-income households, such as the energy check and MaPrimeRénov’, and supporting clean mobility. They also insist on the need for initiatives for a fair distribution of the benefits of the energy transition within the territories.
