The land of Saudi Arabia is considered as the Holiest land in the world for Muslims. Several Islamic stories surround the cities specially Makkah and Madinah. It is believed that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in the holy city of Makkah and then moved to the city of Madinah, which is considered as the beloved city of the Prophet.
The city of Makkah is a renowned place. Many pilgrims visited the holy site to perform Umrah or Hajj by performing a series of rituals which include circulation of Holy Kaaba, walking between Safa and Marwa and many more. It’s here that Allah’s messenger Prophet Muhammad was born and lived till God commanded him to migrate.
Historic Places in Makkah: Each site in Makkah has significant stories related to the time of the Prophet.
- Cave of Hira: The cave also known as a Ghar-i-Hira, is located in the mountain Jabal-al-Nour which is 640m tall. It takes more than one hour to reach the cave. The cave holds an immense significance to Muslims as it is believed that the beloved Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) got the first revelation among many through Jibreel (A.S).
- Cave of Thawr: The cave is also known as Ghar-e-Soor or Ghar-e-Thawr, located in the lower part of Makkah. The place marks its significance as the Prophet Muhammad along with his companion Abu-Bakr(R.A) took shelter in the cave while escaping from Quraish and his army.
- Jannatul Mualla: Also known as the Maqbarah-al-Mualla, is the cemetery in Makkah. It has the graveyard of many prominent persons in Islam including Saiyyitudana Khadija (R.A), the wife of Prophet Muhammad and his two sons. The cemetery is also for the grave of First martyrs in Islam, Yasir-Ibn-Ammar and his mother Summaya (R.A). It is located near the north of Masjid-al-Haram and near to Masjid Jinn.
- Masjid Jinn: The masjid is located in a site where Jinn gathered in a group to listen to the recitation of Holy Quran by Prophet Muhammad(PBUH). Upon hearing the recitation by the beloved prophet, the Jinn’s embrace the Islam.
- Jamarat & Mina Jamarat: The Jamarat is referred to the three pillars located in the Mina. The pillars are said to be upon three Jinns and needed to be pelted by small stones during the Hajj by pilgrimage. It is said to be believed the Jinn tries to discourage Ibrahim (A.S) on his decision to sacrifice his eight-years old son, Ismail (A.S) on Allah’s command which he saw.
The three pillars are named as:
- The first or smallest is Jamarah al-Ula or al-Sughra.
- The middle is Jamarah al-Wusta.
- The largest is Jamarah al-Aqaba or Jamarah al-Kubra.
- Jabal-Ar-Rahman: Also known as Jabal Arafat is a small mountain on the plain of Arafat. It is located twenty kilometers from Makkah. The mountain holds its significance as it is the place where the Prophet gave his last sermon (Khutba-al-Wada) to all his companions during Hujjat-al-Wada.
- Masjid Aishah: Also known as Masjid Al Taneem, located eight kilometers from Makkah.It is the renowned place f to wear Ihram for Umrah Or Hajj. The Masjid was named Aishah in the name of Prophet Muhammad’s wife name Aishah bint Abu Bakr as she wore Ihram once from here. The permission to wear Ihram was given by Muhammad as back in time when Aishah (R.A) could not perform her Umrah due to the Menstrual Period.
The beloved city of the Prophet, Madinah is the second holiest city in Saudi Arabia after Makkah.
The prophet and his companion were welcomed by the people of Madinah when they migrated to the city from Makkah. The city also houses prophet mosque Masjid-Al-Nabwi.
Historic Places in Madinah: Each site in Madinah has significant stories related to the time of the Prophet.
- Quba Masjid: It is the place where the Prophet(PBUH) stayed with abu-Bakar (R.A) after reaching the city of Madinah. The Masjid is extremely significant is Islam as it is the first Mosque built by the Prophet.
- Jabal Uhud: Mount Uhud marks the second battle between the muslims and the Quraysh tribe, following the battle of Badr. The army wants to avenge the humiliation of the battle of Badr. The result of the battle was horifiying as the many Muslim soldiers led by Muhammad fell to death and the prophet also got injured.
- Masjid Jummah: The masjid is located 2.5 kilometers from Masjid al Nabwi. It is the palace where Muhammad (PBUH) led the first Friday Prayer (Salah) after leaving Quba.
- Masjid Qiblatain: Also known as Masjid with two Qibla(the direction to be faced while performing Salah). The mosque hold a significant vale to Muslims as it is said to be believed the mosque is the place where Muhammad (PBUH) got the revelation to the Qibla (the direction of prayer) from Al-Aqsa Mosque(Jerusalem) to Masjid Al-Haram(Makkah).
- Jannatul Baqi: It is the cemetery Located to the south-east of the Masjid al Nabwi. The cemetery has graves of relatives and family member’s of beloved Prophet. There are graves belonging to Sahaba’s and scholars.
- Masjid-e-Ghamama: It is located in the south west of Masjid-al-Nabwi. The place is known for the Eid prayer that Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) led during the last years of his life. It is the palace where the prophet performed Salatul Istisqa(a special salah appealing for rain).
Many Muslims from all over the world visit this place during their Umrah tour or Hajj tour. Special services are available through several travel agencies who make the tour easy and hassle free.
