Paresh Maity Paintings

Born in 1965 in Tamluk, West Bengal, artist Paresh Maity carved his own niche in contemporary Indian Art. Early fascination with the beauty of the surroundings led him to seek formal training in Fine Arts.

He graduated from Govt. College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata, as a Bachelor and then took his post-graduation degree from the College of Art, New Delhi. These were indeed the formative years, where the artist could fiddle with different media and styles that later characterized his works.

The Artistic Journey

The work of Paresh Maity is an instance of versatility, from watercolours, oils, and mixed media to sculptures and installations. His paintings capture the spirit of India’s atmospheric charm with landscapes that have shades of vibrant Rajasthan, serene Kerala backwaters, mystical Ghats of Banaras, and the picturesque countryside of France.

Maity’s career is marked by an enviable record of 88 solo exhibitions within and outside the country. His presence in landmark exhibitions such as ‘SheshLekha – The Last Poems of Rabindranath Tagore’, held at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi and Mumbai, speaks to his stature among India’s best contemporary artists.

His works have been exhibited alongside renowned names like American photographer Steve McCurry at landmark events such as “India Calling! 2010” in Chicago. Art Alive Gallery has been instrumental in showcasing his work worldwide by showcasing collections such as “A Mystic Journey” and “Infinite Light,” each spanning four decades of his artistic evolution.

Notable Installations And Collections

In 2010, Paresh Maity completed one of his most iconic works: a monumental 850-foot mural at the International Terminal of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, among the longest paintings in the world. His other sculptural installations, like Sound of Silence, will be displayed at the newly expanded Terminal 1 of the same airport in 2024.

Works by Maity form part of several prestigious public and private collections, such as the British Museum, Rubin Museum of Art in New York, National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, and various chains of luxury hotels like the Oberoi and Taj groups.

The ability of Paresh Maity to translate his experiences into vibrant visual narratives has made his work a celebration pertaining to life, nature, and culture. His deep connection with elements such as air, water, fire, earth, and sky instils a signature of spirituality and harmony within his art.
