Gil and Glamour in Final Fantasy XIV
Players spend their gil on housing, food and potions as well as glamour items, mounts and other extras that may help with raiding or leveling faster and easier.
Becoming a Crafter and undercutting other players on the Market Board is the fastest and easiest way to accumulate vast sums of gil. However, this does require both patience and time.
Crafting
As is the case in all Final Fantasy games, Gil is essential to progressing the main story and purchasing equipment. Gil can be acquired in a number of ways such as killing monsters for money drops; however, some players find this method cumbersome and prefer ffxiv quick gil instead.
One aspect that distinguishes FFXIV from other MMOs is that its core gameplay includes more Gil sinks than most MMOs – particularly repairs and flight costs like in WoW. Quests offer rewards in Gil, chests drop it from bosses during raids or dungeons and so do rewards from players’ own zell trees at set intervals, among many other sources.
Player housing can be the greatest source of gil waste, costing as much as 42.5 million Gil for a large plot. Until the Firmament opens up and more homes become available for purchase, this will remain an issue for some players.
Gathering
Players spend their ffxiv gil wisely when playing this game. Gil can be used for anything from housing and equipment purchases, to raid food/potions purchases and glamour item/mount purchases – and even skipping difficult challenges without grinding for them! In many instances it allows them to avoid grinding through difficulties that they might otherwise face or simply do not have time for.
Gatherers with high level gathering classes can make significant amounts of gil. One effective strategy for doing so is undercutting other players on the Market Board – though this takes some work and understanding of your market it can prove highly lucrative.
Treasure Maps can also be an excellent source of gil. Level 36 Disciples of the Land (miners, fishers and botanists) or bought on the Market may gain access to them or they may simply purchase one themselves; although not as profitable, this method can add up quickly!
Combat
Gil is the primary currency in Final Fantasy XIV and allows players to purchase weapons, equipment, houses, mounts and more. Players can earn Gil through quests, guildleves, dungeons and duty roulettes; or selling items directly or via the Market Board.
Additionally, Aetheryte Teleport Network uses Gil as its currency. Gil can also be rewarded to players through enemies dropping it or purchased at shops in First District shops; or earned through selling loot dropped or stolen from monsters.
Crafting is one of the best ways to earn Gil, with most crafters being able to generate 5-25 Million each week depending on how active they are. Unfortunately, however, this method requires extensive grinding which may become time consuming as well as being vulnerable to undercutting on the Market Board; nevertheless it remains one of the most reliable means of earning Gil in game.
Glamour
Glamour is an integral component of Final Fantasy XIV’s fashion-centric community, allowing players to personalize any piece of gear equippable to their character by changing its appearance with a glamour prism. Base and projected items must occupy identical equipment slots; every glamour will cost one prism.
There are various methods of earning ffxiv gil, from main story quests and job quests to running dungeons and farming gear. Additionally, the market board can be an efficient source of Gil; however, it may be more costly and inconvenient than other methods.
Crafting is the easiest and most economical way to earn Gil. Ingredients for glamour prisms can be found both within dungeons and the wild, making this method one of the easiest ways to generate income in-game. Players may also purchase them from either the General Equipment store or market board (generally more costly, yet still an efficient means).
