Read edited excerpts:

Dr. Chouhan, can you tell us about your early days at Apeejay School and how they shaped your career?
My journey at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, began in my pre-school years. Both my parents are alumni of Apeejay, and that’s why they enrolled me in Apeejay for my schooling. Initially, I was deeply involved in sports, particularly basketball and cricket, with dreams of pursuing a career in athletics. However, my trajectory changed dramatically in 9th grade when I participated in the NASA Space Settlement Design Competition. This international competition, which involved creating a viable space settlement design, was a turning point. The experience of working with a team and the mentorship I received from teachers ignited my passion for science, ultimately steering me towards a career in medicine.

Winning the NASA Space Settlement Design Competition must have been a significant achievement. Can you share more about that experience?
Winning the NASA Space Settlement Design Competition was indeed a monumental achievement. In 9th grade, our team secured the second prize, and in 10th grade, we won the grand prize for our project, VONA. This competition required us to design a space settlement that could ensure human survival outside Earth. The project was an intense and rewarding experience, requiring dedication and innovative thinking. Standing in front of astronauts, including Dr. Buzz Aldrin, and presenting our project was surreal. This achievement was the third time an Indian school had won the grand prize, and it brought immense pride to Apeejay School and our country.
