Why asking for a raise only comes to Braveheart

The pay scale is as is, a scale of what you are on right now and what you could potential get (the higher end).

A worker is due their pay

But it will not normally be handed to you on a silver platter, not automated  each new year nor as you cross certain thresholds of achievements.

It is there alright but has to be claimed like a traveller going to baggage claim to claim what is theirs and that is no easy feat.

Work worthy, not just any work but consistent work-worthy work that transcends your pay grade and or involved with internal and external stakeholders would need to be proven. Have a strategic plan for each work day, work week. Diarise achievements which transcend just your corner, responsibilities and expectations of you. Numbers don’t lie so have some numbers to hand to show.

Lend a helping hand to other teams. Your transferable skills will be honed and you might just pick up a few new skills in the process.

Feature your achievements prominently and armed with this information make contact with the company gatekeeper who can expand your purse strings.

At the end of the day and before walking the gauntlet, you will have to have the confidence that you deserve a raise and what better way to strengthen and reinforce your confidence and aptitude than with evidence. Don’t underestimate your work diary. It can speak for you in any closed room when you are not present or when tongue-tied to explain at length why you should be paid the new rate.

Good luck

NB: If you don’t have one, buy and start a work journal. This is your armed companion.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
