The Mekong Bobtail cat is a very rare breed. It is famous for its short and stiff tail and friendly nature. Discover why this cat is different from the others.
1. A Royal History
Mekong Bobtails have been bred and raised since the early civilized era in Siam, now known as Thailand. Though people in the past had these cats, kings and queens used to own such cats, and they were believed to protect temples, too. They were so appreciated that the King of Siam offered some to the Russian royal family in the nineteenth century. Since then, the breed has spread but has retained its majesty.
2. The price of Mekong Bobtail
The general cost of a Mekong Bobtail can differ depending on the breeder and, of course, on the cat’s pedigree. Acquiring one of these cats will range between $300 and $1,200. Cats from good breeders or those that can be ordered for the show may cost on the higher side of that price range. You must also use the services of a breeder who cares for her cats and does not engage in cruelty and poor breeding.
3. What Makes Them Special?
One of the most important drawing points, considered a hallmark of the Mekong Bobtail, is its short tail. All cats’ tails are unique; they may have kinks or curves, so they are all special. They also have shiny bodies, beautiful blue almond-shaped eyes, and short, smooth fur. Some have color point patterns. The face, ears, paws, and tail are different colors than the other bodies.
4. Friendly and Fun
Mekong Bobtails are very friendly and affectionate. They are social creatures and often prefer to be with people. They can be seen moving from one room to another in the house. They are not obtrusive but like to ‘communicate’ with their people. These curious cats enjoy roaming, which will suit owners with children or another cat fine.
5. Playful and Intelligent
It is also important to know that these Mekong Bobtails are intelligent and cute. They are friendly and enjoy playing games and solving various puzzles, which makes friends suitable to be pets. They find anything that requires their brains to work; therefore, puzzle toys and training sessions can be entertaining. Their intelligence also makes them learn schedules, and they are also able to learn some tricks, making their companionship more enjoyable.
6. Adaptable to Any Home
Mekong Bobtails are suited to various living conditions, whether in a busy environment such as a parental home or a calm environment such as an apartment. Therefore, they can adapt well to different animals and people, making them ideal for most households with one or more animals. They love to sleep next to you and watch television or chase new toys when bored—this breed is one of the most adorable I’ve ever seen.
