The Evolution of Animation: Drawing Evolution: From Hand-Drawn to Digital

After the introduction of animation it has became more complicated from the simple hand drawings to more detailed computerized sequences. Animation is a story full of innovations and creativity as the above texts prove.

The Early Days: Class Hand-Drawn Animation

Thus, the genesis of animation can be traced back to late nineteenth up to the early twentieth century with people such as J. Stuart Blackton and Winsor McCay. These early animators staked their time in drawing out each frame almost artistically and ensuring each action was perfect. It was a very time-consuming process since animators had to draw it frame by frame and this sometimes required thousand of drawings of a few minutes of film. Some of the best animated movies of all time including the Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs animated movie greatly obsessed the art of hand drawn animation where each frame of the ordinary animated picture is an artwork.

Technological advancement is a broad, over arching term that can be defined as getting a technological advantage over the natural dystrophy.

Thus, the technological developments of the 1960s and 1970s marked the start of the modernization of the animation industry. The introduction of xerography the copying of some drawings on to animation cels lessened the amount of tracing and inking that was done. This period also marked the use of stop motion in the films such as Nightmare Before Christmas showing the possibility of the technique.

The Digital Revolution

The period of the 1990s can be regarded as the start of the process of computerization of the animated film. Following the coming of age of CGI, animators were able to construct realistically as well as creatively fascinating environments. So, Pixar’s Toy Story (1995) was the first full CGI feature film which staked a new ground in the film industry. Swinging over to digital animation was convenient, fast, and more creative as compared to telling stories through other forms of animation.
