After Paris and Budapest…now Tokyo!!!
And this time a gold medal (in the aerial photography category)
With the series Meeting Point which was photographed in Achziv Beach.

That is what they wrote to me:

The 2022 Tokyo International Photo Awards winners have been chosen and are now available to view on the TIFA website. This year’s contest received an extraordinarily high response, with thousands of excellent submissions coming from all around the world.
There is a kind of magic in drone photography. Everything looks completely different because of the special view from the top down and because of the simple fact that most people do not in their daily lives float in the air and see the world from above…

In the photographs of the point of view series that I took in front of Achziv beach, the element of “flying over the sea” was also added with all that entails. It’s a kind of adrenaline-filled race against the wind, the waves, the changing light and the drone’s battery time which is quickly running out. I usually make a short flight at a fairly high speed over the “destination” to understand the direction and quality of the lighting, the speed of the waves, the combination of the textures of the rocks with the water, and more. After that I bring the drone to the right height and start to build the composition by very small movements to the right, to the left, and also changes in height and direction of the camera according to the sun’s rays, perform some tests to understand the speed of the waves against the speed of the shutter in order to achieve the exact timing and create the feeling of the movement of The water in front of the rocks. (almost always uses an nd filter to achieve a slower shutter speed) tries to make it as dramatic as possible, then just waits for the right wave and…presses the button.
Sometimes I’m not sure it’s worth all this effort and also the risk to the drone, but apparently, the judges of the competition in Tokyo thought it was… some of the images from this series you can find here.
